I will be frank, I always liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.
Just a few clicks and a customer can place an order using a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, however, it comes at a price tag. A large one.
This is one the very few freelance platforms where buyers are given free reign to abuse, sabotage and outright blackmail vendors any way they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye on it.
In this informative article, I'd like to share a new bad experience for a vendor on Fiverr, and also I decided to give up on the stage altogether.
How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
While I've been using Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a while, this particular encounter relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I have been guiding her building up a reputable accounts, and the way to go beyond and above with every last order. Everything mentioned is her doing, I'm only an observer.)
In cases like this, she'd only gotten another $5 sequence on her emblem gig, which seemed to be like another... or so we thought.
The purchase was fulfilled in good time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus emblem concept in addition to the source file (that is usually part of the more expensive bundle ).
The client"loved" among the concepts so we moved to send her the appropriates file sizes, as mentioned in the gig description. Shortly afterwards, things got a little weird.
The customer came back asking for a social networking kit to go with the logo, something which is clearly not available as a member of her gig.
In my advice, my girlfriend chose to provide the further work, although not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the customer responded with more demands and some changes to the social media files.
At this point, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this person, they were clearly overstepping their bounds here.
This is when the customer went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a response and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the customer did eventually go right ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she was All the Product Reviews Money Can Buy - The New York Times not kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the support question, the client paid an extra $10 to your social media kit.
Obviously, the payment was accompanied by still another danger.
At this point, all I wanted to do was move all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so I could repeatedly punch them in the face.
However, at the time, I had hope that Fiverr support will step in and rescue my girlfriend from this PITA client.
When the response came from Fiverr support, they told her they could Fiverr Review – All You Need to Know About Fiverr - itsVicky not induce the purchaser to accept the purchase.
Okay, that is fair enough. (Even though the buyer already accepted it.)
They also proposed drawing up a listing for the buyer to reveal the job has been done in accordance with the gig requirements.
Frankly, this reply just didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend hauled in her first email the client was attempting to extort her for free work out the agreed periods, by making a negative inspection if she did not comply.
Of course, it wasn't about the job, it was all about seeking protection against an abusive client who had been blatantly pushing their luck.
Their answer didn't provide us any confidence that Fiverr actually understood , and even at this point we felt like they didn't wish to get involved.
At exactly the identical time, she responded to the buyers latest danger, explaining that she would not continue to function together unless the comments had been changed/removed.
(Again, this will be feedback which has been clearly and blatantly made to bully her to supplying work outside the agreed provisions )
An honest petition by anyones standards, appropriate? Well, apparently not.
As opposed to acknowledge what the purchaser had done up until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the one breaking all of the rules.
Because she had requested the client to modify their opinions, she was no more entitled to any assistance from Fiverr support.
It's possible to imagine how we felt studying this.
Everything that the purchaser had said and done prior to her last message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened in any respect.
Fiverr essentially opted to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain on an account she had worked so difficult to build up.
If everything that happened wasn't troubling enough, it is knowing that this person is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors without a shred of repercussion.
And believe me, there are tons of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
Well, as most of this was happening, I did a little research to find out whether some other sellers went through a similar ordeal with an individual purchaser.
Very quickly, I found a variety of nearly equal cases over the Fiverr forum obsolete years back. (that's right, decades.)
This is obviously something that's been happening for quite a while and it stems from providing buyers too much power over vendors.
When there's 1 thing I've heard about Fiverr, it is that clients are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Regardless of how long that you put into a project, or just how hard you've worked on itor even how well you handled communication in a dispute, if it really comes down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it's a very clear cut case in your favour, there's still every chance the customer will come out on top. All it takes it one little thing you"did wrong" in accordance with their own conditions of support and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Looking at the signs, it's obvious to me that Fiverr is well aware of what is happening, yet is still keen to settle back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, then I urge you to seriously reconsider your current support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can place all the time and effort into establishing an account and over-delivering at every conceivable opportunity, just to be shot down from the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I really don't wish to leave Fiverr. I don't need to be telling folks to avoid your platform.
But after everything that's occurred, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done to protect freelancers from this sort of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this article and do anything I can to prevent others from falling victim to your one-sided support staff.
The why not look here next you really do something about it and also provide freelancers a means to fight back, I'll be happy to update this post.
